Bladder and Bowel Training (Biofeedback)

Dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscle is a major suggested cause of functional bladder and bowel problems in children. Advise around education, fluid intake and diet is important, and then activities to improve awareness of sensations in the abdomen and pelvic floor, with the potential use of biofeedback to assist in this process to relearn the appropriate muscle contraction. Abdominal breathing and relaxation techniques, to assist function, and also abdominal massage for constipation.

Biofeedback games can also be used for other muscle groups to increase activation and awareness.
